Bracket Processing
START OF PROCESSING: Each week when the League Assistant processes the competition results, it will check if the start week for each bracket. If this is the start week, then the processing will begin. If a bracket was started in a prior week and has not been completed, the program will continue the processing using the results for the current week.
UPDATING AVERAGE STATS: If this is the start week, the program will ask if the user wants to update the average Bracket Stat values in the bracket to the current statistic. It is possible to setup a bracket at the start of the season that will not start until a future week, such as week 10. It may well be that the average statistic for the participant may have changed over the weeks of competition. For example, a person's average may have improved or worsened. The program will give the user the option of updating the stats to the current stats.
RESEED BEFORE STARTING: At the start of the bracket the program will also ask if the user wants to reseed the first round of the bracket using the current stats. This is mainly intended for use with automatic seeding. Using it for random seeding is of questionable value and it simply does not apply for manual seeding. With automatic seeding, if there has been little change in the averages since the bracket was created, the automatic reseeding will have little or no effect on the first round. However, if there have been significant changes in the averages, then the reseeding may well make major changes in the round and ultimately in the overall result of the bracket. Please think through this thoroughly before you decide to reseed at the start of a bracket.
GAME PROCESSING: Once processing has started the program will advance through each round of the bracket until all rounds are completed. If the Bracket Stat is for a scratch or handicap game, then each round will be one game. If there are three games in each week of league competition and the bracket has only three rounds in it, then the bracket will be started and completed in week. If however, the number of games in the bracket is greater than the number of games in a week, then the processing will continue with the next week of competition. For example, if there are three games in a series and the bracket has five rounds, the bracket will not finish until the second game of the week after the bracket started. The first three games of the bracket will be taken from the start week of the bracket and the last two games will be taken from the next week of the competition.
SERIES PROCESSING: Once processing has started the program will advance through each round of the bracket until all rounds are completed. If the Bracket Stat is for a scratch or handicap series, then each round will be one series. If a series is completed each week of competition, then each round of the bracket will last one week. A bracket with five rounds will then take five weeks to complete.
BRACKET RESULTS: When a bracket is completed the user will be informed during the processing that this has happened. At any time, the results of each planned, in process, or completed bracket can be viewed by selecting Brackets from the Setup menu of the program, or using the Bracket Summary or Details reports on the Reports menu.
WINNERS AND LOSERS: The League Assistant program will use the results for the chosen Bracket Stat to determine the winners of each match within a round of the bracket. If there is a tie, then the option selected for determining the winner will be used. If there is an number of participants is a round, then the first participant in the round will either have a Bye or be required to beat their own average (with or without and offset) to win the match.
